FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Montana CHALK 400ml spray and how does it work?
Montana CHALK 400ml spray is a solvent-based, high quality chalk based pigment spray, which is sprayed on to the substrate. Once the propellants and color vehicle dries, you are left with the deep matte chalk based pigment spray on the substrate. CHALK 400ml spray functions with the similar characteristics of any other Montana Cans color paint spray (e.g. high coverage, excellent handling, easy application etc.) and is available in 10 powerful colors. It enables temporary marking on non-porous surfaces.
What can I use Montana CHALK 400ml spray for?
Montana CHALK 400ml spray is ideal for interior or exterior use on non-porous surfaces, where a temporary mark is preferred that can later be removed with water and a sponge. Alternatively it can be used when chalk is the chosen medium for a particular project or artwork.
How do I start using my Montana CHALK 400ml spray can?
Remove the spray nozzle and turn the can upside down. Strike with your palm allowing safety ring to fall out. Shake vigerously for 2-3 minutes ensuring you can hear the mixing balls moving freely. Replace the cap back onto the top of the can valve and trigger away from substrate to test. If flowing freely you can start painting.
Which surfaces can I use my CHALK 400ml spray on?
Montana Chalk 400ml spray is only temporary when applied to non-porous surfaces. It can be used on smooth, rough and primed surface such as sidewalks, walls, cardboard, canvas and glass that are non porous. We recommend covering or masking off all surrounding areas that you do not want to cover, particularly when using indoors. Application in windy conditions is not recommended. Avoid contact with silicone joins (like on windows) as chalk could stain the silicon. Applying to bitumen could result in difficulties or inability to remove due to pigment being trapped in the surfaces pores.
How long does Montana CHALK 400ml spray take to dry?
The drying time for Montana CHALK 400ml spray varies depending on substrate, ambient temperature and levels of humidity. Due to tit being a pigmented chalk spray, the surface will always remain open and disturbed when touched. Sealing with Montana VARNISH sprays can seal the surface and create a permanent film over the CHALK holding the pigments in place.
Is Montana CHALK 400ml spray temporary on all surfaces?
Please note, even though Montana CHALK 400ml sprays is removeable with water, it is ONLY temporary when applied on to non-porous surfaces! If surfaces have pores, it is possible that pigment residue can become trapped within those pores (as on natural stone), and thus become difficult to remove. We suggest trialing on a non visible area of your surface first to check the ease of removal.
How far should I hold the can away from the substrate while painting?
Optimum distance from substrate is normally beween 15 and 25cm depending on your task. Thin, even layers are optimal.
Can I paint over my CHALK 400ml with other paints?
Due to the CHALK 400ml spray being an open paint when dry, the chalk and pigments are not bound or sealed and thus will be disturbed when touched. As such you cannot apply other paints over it until it is sealed with a Montana VARNISH and allowed to completely cure. After this point you can apply other paints and effect coatings over CHALK 400ml spray, including Montana GOLD, Montana BLACK, Montana WHITE, Montana ACRYLIC markers as well as customary acrylic paints.
