What is a CHROME EFFECT COLOR?
Note: Always test beforehand, if surface/material is compatible!
Chrome effect colors are made with metallic Leafing pigments. After application, these pigments raise to the surface and dry on top of the paint film. They are exposed, which achieves maximum reflection of light (the chrome effect) when it directly hits the pigments. The result is an „open“ paint surface that is not abrassion proof, cleanable or durable to handle.
How are other metallic colors different to CHROME EFFECT colors ?
Other metallic colors are made with Non-Leafing pigments. After application, these pigments spread themselves evenly within the paint film. This results in a „closed“ paint surface that is abrassion proof, cleanable, durable and has a longer lifespan due to resistance against UV deterioration. Non-Leafing metallic pigments can also be used in conjunction with colored pigment, but will never offer the shine of a CHROME EFFECT color.
Are Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors as light fast as the other colors?
Although superior to other brands, the Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors are not as light fast as normal colors due to their open surface. As the pigment dries on the paints surface, there is less protection as there is no clear coat paint vehicle filtering light. Depending on the exposure to UV light, this could lead to the increasing of the deterioration process.
Are Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors as durable as the other colors?
Due to CHROME EFFECT colors being open surface paints, they are not as durable as normal colors. Touching the paints surface when dry may leave finger prints or marks as the pigments themselves are being re-shaped. The surface may also „appear“ wet even though it is not. Again this is as each contact changes the shape of the larger then normal pigments.
Is it possible to enhance the durability of my Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to enhance the durability of the Montana Gold Chrome Effects without losing the typical chrome shine/reflective effect. Applying Montana Varnish makes the effect look like a metallic paint. Therefore we recommend for a long-lasting and weatherproof result our Montana Metallic Effect.
Are the Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors as opaque as other colors?
As the metallic pigment flakes in the Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors are larger then normal color pigments and not transparent, coverage and opacity is rapid and excellent.
Can I use Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors like any other Montana GOLD?
Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT functions and applies like any other Montana GOLD color. However over painting can only occur when paint has dried to avoid the newly applied color being „absorbed“.
Can I use Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors outdoors?
The Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors can be used indoors or out. Infact they are often preffered for out door works by graffiti artists for their amazing coverage. Using them for objects that need to last long, will be exposed to the elements, stored outdoors or functional and will be handled a lot is not recommened! We suggest using a Montana METALLIC EFFECT spray color instead which is a closed surface paint.
Do MONTANA GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors have the same finish as other Montana GOLD Metallic or normal Montana Gold colors?
No. Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors are a lot shinier then any other closed surface colors due to light reflecting directly off the pigments. There is no alternative durable type of paint that can achieve this level of light reflection.
Can I paint my bike or functional object with MONTANA GOLD CHROME EFFECT?
It is not recommended to use any CHROME EFFECT colors for functional objects that will be constantly handled. We recommend Montana GOLD METALLIC colors or Montana METALLIC EFFECT sprays which are closed surface paints, abrassion resistant and have a durable finish when cured.
Are Montana GOLD CHROME EFFECT colors abrasion proof?
Montana GOLD CHROME EFFCT colors are not abrasion proof due to their open surface. We recommend Montana GOLD METALLIC colors or Montana METALLIC EFFECT sprays which are closed surface paints, abrassion resistant and have a durable finish when cured.
What kind of packaging materials can I use to transport / store my painted objects?
When transporting or storing painted objects, it's crucial to steer clear of air bubble wrap or similar packaging materials. These films may contain plasticizers that can gradually evaporate, resulting in unsightly marks or discoloration on the painted surface. Additionally, they can harbor silicone residues, oils, or fats from production, leading to imprints on the paint.
To safeguard your painted surfaces, it's advisable to utilize alternative packaging materials such as foam sheets, soft blankets, cardboard, or other suitable options. These alternatives provide effective protection without the risk of damaging the paintwork.
